Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).
In a large oven-safe skillet, cook the chopped bacon over medium heat until crispy. Remove the bacon with a slotted spoon and set aside on a paper towel-lined plate, leaving about 1-2 tablespoons of bacon grease in the skillet. Discard the remaining grease.
Add the chopped onion to the skillet with the bacon grease and sauté for 3-4 minutes until softened. Add the minced garlic and cook for another minute until fragrant.
Add the trimmed green beans to the skillet. Toss to coat them in the onion and garlic mixture. Pour in the chicken broth, soy sauce, and Worcestershire sauce. Stir in the smoked paprika and black pepper (and red pepper flakes, if using).
Bring the mixture to a simmer, then transfer the skillet to the preheated oven. Roast for 15-20 minutes, or until the green beans are tender-crisp and slightly charred.
Remove the skillet from the oven. Stir in most of the reserved crispy bacon. Taste and adjust seasonings if needed.
Serve immediately, garnished with the remaining crispy bacon and optional toasted almonds or sesame seeds.
