Prepare your espresso: Brew 1-2 shots of espresso using your preferred method (espresso machine, Moka pot, or AeroPress). If you don't have an espresso maker, brew 2-3 ounces of very strongly brewed coffee.
Heat and froth the milk: Pour your milk into a microwave-safe container or a small saucepan. Heat the milk until it's steaming but not boiling (around 150-160°F or 65-70°C). If using a microwave, heat in 30-second intervals, stirring in between. Once heated, use a milk frother to create a rich, foamy head. Whisk vigorously until you have a good amount of foam and the milk is creamy.
Sweeten if desired: If you like your latte sweet, stir your sugar or sweetener into the heated milk before frothing, or add it directly to your espresso.
Combine: Pour the hot espresso into your favorite mug. Gently pour the steamed milk over the espresso, holding back the foam with a spoon. Once the mug is about two-thirds full, spoon the remaining foam on top.
Garnish and serve: Sprinkle with cinnamon or cocoa powder, if using. Serve immediately and enjoy your perfect homemade latte!
