Ingredients

  • 1 lb lean ground turkey or chicken
  • 1 cup cooked brown rice
  • 1/2 cup finely chopped carrots
  • 1/2 cup finely chopped zucchini
  • 1/4 cup cooked peas fresh or frozen, thawed
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1/4 cup low-sodium chicken or vegetable broth
  • 1/4 teaspoon fish oil supplement optional, for omega-3s
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground turmeric anti-inflammatory properties

Method

  1. In a large skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the ground turkey or chicken and cook, breaking it up with a spoon, until browned and cooked through. Drain any excess fat.
  2. Add the finely chopped carrots and zucchini to the skillet with the cooked meat. Sauté for 5-7 minutes, or until the vegetables are tender-crisp.
  3. Stir in the cooked brown rice, cooked peas, and chicken or vegetable broth. Mix well to combine all ingredients.
  4. If using, stir in the fish oil supplement and ground turmeric. Ensure the turmeric is evenly distributed throughout the mixture.
  5. Allow the mixture to simmer for another 2-3 minutes, stirring occasionally, until everything is heated through and the broth has been mostly absorbed.
  6. Remove from heat and let the dog food cool completely before serving. This is crucial to prevent burning your dog's mouth.
